A Golfers Christmas Wish List

Christmas is the time of giving and with Thanksgiving quickly approaching stores around the country are gearing up for the holiday shopping rush. What could be better than giving that special someone in your life your holiday golf wish list. We here at USGolfer, we want to make sure that you find the right gift for you’re golfing needs. Depending on your respective skill level, some balls or clubs might just be a huge waste of money, but as long as it’s a gift, it’s not your money you’re wasting now are you. This list will give examples of the top new equipment for the various skill levels out there from the monthly masher to the yearly yanker.
Well What better way to begin this list than to start with the one item golfers can never have to much of, especially those married men out there who often times have to dig deep into the bag to find. That’s right, kids! I’m talking about balls. It’s the 21st century though; these aren’t your grandfather’s balls. These balls are tailored for what the golfer needs. There’s balls for distance, balls for Accuracy, and balls for control. Which ball you need depends greatly on your skill level.
PGA Pro Dreamer- This is the ball that the pros are playing. The #1 ball in golf and its not cheap. The Titliest Pro V1 (MSRP $54/dozen) ouch! Man that’s an expensive ball and it’s in high demand. Some specialty stores have been charging upwards of $65/ dozen for these babies but if you’re a scratch golfer looking for that pro feel and edge this is the ball for you. It is what the pros use.
Everyone Else- This is the category for those who will likely lose $15 in PRO V1’s in a round. Here is a list of the top mid-range priced distance balls out right now. These balls range in price from $20 to $30 a dozen so they won’t break you and they have what the average 5 – 20 handicap golfer needs: More Distance. Here is how they break down as far as overall performance:
1. Wilson Smart Core Straight Distance
2. Strata Professional Distance
3. Slazenger Raw Distance
4. Nike Precision Distance
5. Precept MC Lady (You go Girls!)
6. Titleist HP Distance

Any one of these balls would be an excellent choice for those golfers who need a little more distance. I’ve never heard a golfer say "Man, I wish I didn’t hit the ball that far all the time."
Although a distance ball will help most golfers, what good is a distance ball if you don’t have a decent driver to use with it. That brings us to our next Wish list category. Drivers! The big dogs! We’re talking some serious money for these bad boys. The General rule with drivers is this. If the PGA doesn’t like it must be good. This puts the number one ranking on those clubs that are deemed "NON-Conforming" by the PGA. Meaning professionals are not allowed to use them in competition because they give the golfers too much distance, As if you could actually have too much distance.

This Elite list of clubs contains 3 clubs. They are the HOG XTL, the Callaway ERC II, and the Daiwa G3 902 Ti-01. These are for those golfers who don’t mind spending a little cash. These clubs run around $500 apiece. That is one pretty penny. For those who would like to stay on the good side of the PGA officials, just in case they get their big break onto the tour, here is a list of the top legal performers in the driver market:
1. Taylor Made
2. Butler SSTi
3. HOG ATL
4. Wilson Deep Red
5. Natural Golf Hammer
6. Yonnex 350 V-mass
7. Callaway VFT
8. Katana Sword

As you can see there are many unusual manufacturers of drivers. This increased competition leads to advancements in design and performance every year. Of course when you’re paying $500 for one club, the manufactures can afford to spend a little bit of money on research and development. Well hopefully this will give you a few ideas for the holiday season. Tune in next month for part 2 of the Holiday Wish list. We will delve into the woods, irons and putters. OH MY!
