The Lady's Man Cometh.
By now most golfers have heard of the legend of the greatest golf ball since slice bread. A mythical ball that can add 20 yards to your drive and can give you an extra club length with your irons. Is it true? Yeah baby, its true. But its a womans ball ! Which has some male golfers
. Shall we say, questioning their masculinity.
Just in cause you havent heard, the Precept MC Lady is taking the male golf community by storm, and supposedly this all started through word of mouth. What a powerful tool. A year ago, Precept was selling about 14,000 LADYs a month. Now theyre selling over 150,000. By the way, 98% of those sales were to men who were "buying the balls for the wife". So why such a buzz for a Ladys ball? Its softer, its longer, and its cheaper. If you can find it and the prices havent been gouged yet you can pick some up. It sells for around $20 a dozen where as most high performance mens golf balls sell for around $30 to $40 a dozen.
We at USGolfer decided to go right to the source to find out how and why this Womens ball performs so well for male golfers. This is what the people at Precept had to say about the MC Lady:
"Typically, women golfers do not generate swing speeds as high as those of their male counterparts. Realizing this, Precept set out to design a ball that provided optimal performance at the lower clubhead speeds commonly found among women golfers. Utilizing a core thats the softest among all Precept balls allows for optimal compression of the MC Lady at lower impact forces resulting in increased initial velocity and overall distance."
Whats funny about this story is, they never thought to test it out on Male Golfers. So they knew it was good for women, but had no idea what effect it would have on the male golf community. There was no real advertising push or a huge inventory to keep up with demand. How did demand get so high? Well it can all be traced back to one fellow apparently.
A caddie on the senior tour recommended the ball to Lynn Farquhar, general manager of Edwin Watts Golf store in Birmingham, Alabama back in June of 2000. Farquhar liked the ball so much that he recommended it to Sam Farlow, a top amateur player who played with it in the Alabama Senior Amateur and won! Then word began to spread and soon more proof of the balls performance came when club professional Bill Loeffler won the Colorado PGA Section Championship with the Precept MC Lady.
The demand grew so much through word of mouth in the golf community and on Internet chat sites that the balls became near impossible to find in some pro shops. The demand has grown so much that Precept now has four plants working around the clock producing the balls to meet the incredible demand.
If you are not comfortable buying a Ladys ball yet, check out our other article, for tips on how to make the Precept MC Lady a little more manly.
