Has Old man winter got you down? Do you look at your golf clubs sitting in the corner and secretly contemplate taking a few chip shots inside your house? Sure, it may be dangerous and you could break something, but you can always blame it on the kids, right? Well, before you resort to mentally scaring your children and breaking that irreplaceable vase or God forbid your brand new High Definition TV, you should consider heading out to an indoor driving range or golf simulator.

Luckily there happens to be an indoor driving range right here in Mid-Michigan. There are actually at least 19 indoor ranges and golf simulators in Michigan that we were able to locate, but there could quite possibly be even more. Simulators can actually fit inside a home or business so they literally could be anywhere across Michigan. It just comes down to a matter of tracking them down and locating them, but until that time, feel free to check out any of the 19 facilities that we did find. Now back to that indoor driving range that is luckily right in the Mid-Michigan area. Funtyme Golf Dome in Okemos, Michigan is located right off I-96 at the Okemos exit. If you’re like me you’ve probably driven by it many times while traveling on I-96, and said to yourself, "That thing looks pretty interesting, I should check it out". Well, after years of procrastination, I finally followed through and "checked out" that weird dome I kept seeing from the highway.
The Dome is surprisingly spacious once inside. It is about 100 yards long and 50 yards wide, and heated (good thing!). The range is set up with 32 hitting bays. There are 16 on the ground level with another 16 bays directly above those on an upper level. From these bays, it is only about 85 yards to the end of the dome, which has multiple targets that players can try to hit, though I don’t think you win any stuffed animals or head covers for doing so. While you can’t see exactly how far you hit the ball, you still get an idea of your level of control, accuracy, and feel.
The Dome also has a putting green, which players can use, along with a small Pro Shop area. It is even equipped with a Large Screen Projection TV complete with couches and end tables. The dome also has vending machines and complimentary coffee for those cold winter days. All this is priced very reasonably. The rates are per hour and are listed below:

Weekday before 10:30 am		$6.50/ _ hour
Weekday after 10:30 am		$7.50/ _ hour
Weekends and Holidays		$8.50/ _ hour

The Golf dome also features Fall and Winter Golf Clinics, which are held every Wednesday from 8:00 pm till 9:30 pm. The cost of these clinics is $15.00 a person but many benefits are included from Golf Instruction and Swing Speed checks to Club fittings. While you may not be able to walk a course or see how far you’re pounding the ball each week, you at least keep your swing alive and well during these cold harsh winter months, which should put you ahead of most golfers in the spring when the rest of the golf world struggles to find their swing all over again.
