Golfwits II - the PDAs
This is Part II of the Golfwits product review and covers what I consider to be the coolest feature of Golfwits, the PDA versions. In the Golfwits Pro Bundle three different versions of the Golfwits program are included for use on the 3 major PDA operating systems. There is a Palm OS version, and Windows CE version and a Pocket PC version.
These versions all function similarly to the PC version with a few exceptions that vary depending on your PDAs operating system.
Golfwits allows Palm and Windows CE owners to take their device to the point of action on the golf course for scoring, gathering data and recording side games. Golfers can download a free Golfwits golf course map of their favorite course from the Golfwits library of thousands of golf courses. These golfers can easily record scoring, shot shaping and wagers and club selections for themselves and three other golfers to review and study at home.
Heres what we think about Golfwits overall
The Good
Compatible devices include Palm m100, m105, m500, III/IIIc, V, VII, Sony Clie,
IBM Workpad and the Handspring Visor.
Compatible with new Pocket PCs using CE version 3.0 such as Compaq iPAQ H36xx series, HP Jornada 540 Series and the Casio E-115/125.
Compatible with Palm-sized PCs which use Windows CE version 2.0 - 2.11 and have 8MB of memory or more such as the Compaq Aero 2100 series and 1500 series, Casio E-11 through E-100 series, HP Jornada 400 series, Phillips Nino and Everex Freestyle.
Same benefits and options as the PC version with the added benefit of being used right on the course.
Capable of Scoring for 4 separate players with separate yardages depending on Tee selection,
Operation is almost identical to the PC version of Golfwits.
The Bad
Like the PC, operation is not intuitive thus leading to a lot of cross-referencing with the online user manual.
Can really kill your PDAs batteries if not used wisely,
Can prove difficult to sync the PDA with home computer and successfully download new courses.
The Gods Honest Truth
A great tool and resource that is relatively easy to use once, the controls are explained. It is hard to imagine a more exciting useful way to keep score of your next round of Golf. Considering the fact that these programs are included with the PC version, Golfwits proves to be a great value.
